Bahria University students win Imagine Cup National Finals 2017!

What is Imagine Cup?


Imagine Cup is a global competition, an initiative by Microsoft and HEC (Higher Education Commission) that empowers and encourages students from the field of Computer Science to form a team and create applications.

The Microsoft Imagine Cup 2017 presents a chance for young developers to show their biggest and boldest software solutions. The prizes include mentorship opportunities with industry leaders, an Azure grant and cash awards of up to a $100,000.

Who took part in Imagine Cup 2017 from Pakistan?

From Pakistan, students from Karachi, Lahore ,Islamabad, Peshawar belonging to universities participated, particularly this year students from remote areas such as Sahiwal, Mianwali, Khuzdar and Jamshoro also showed great enthusiasm in the competition, Students were initially evaluated in regional finals, held in different cities and the best teams competed to win the national finals in Islamabad.

Key notes and highlights from the event ceremony held at HEC-Headquarters Islamabad:

Minister Planning and Development HEC – Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, appreciated the innovative ideas and the use technology in this year’s projects and delivered a motivational speech to empower students to achieve more and be self-confident. He was very happy to see participation of universities from rural areas of Pakistan and announced on stage up to 1 Million grant for the winning team's universities.

We will train best researchers and scholars through world’s renowned universities under the initiative of Pak-US Knowledge corridor. These professionals will give training to the national youth,” he added.

Out of 22 Teams 21 Teams showed up to the National Finals and presented themselves in the best way possible.

Some projects really stood out well and solved real world problems for eg : Project that enables users to write software programs using Speech Control , Augmented Reality platform to treat people with special needs and help them in therapy, Virtual Reality Defense Training System Project using Kinect V2 Oculus Rift, Gyro Sensor 3D Gun (Designed by Team) and so on. 
Who won Imagine Cup National Finals?


Hannah Habayeb ( DX Lead NEPA) , announced the winner for National Finals Pakistan .

The team ‘Positive Zero’ was the winning team from Bahria University Karachi won the national Finals ,they built a Microsoft Azure cognitive service-based engine that helps in writing code through voice commands they named their project as “ Speak To Code”.
We wish Team Positive Zero Good luck for Pan Arab Finals in Lebanon. Hope to see Pakistan shine through globally.
